I am a donkey on the edge!
September 11th, 2006. Posted 19:14

Watched Shrek again last weekend. Such a fun movie! Gotta love that big green ogre and crazy donkey! Cracks me up every time! :-)

One of my favorite scenes, in the end when Shrek and Donkey crash the wedding. Donkey sitting on top of the Dragon:
“All right. Nobody move. I got a dragon here, and I’m not afraid to use it. I’m a donkey on the edge! Celebrity marriages. They never last, do they? Go ahead, Shrek.”
:-)

Heard from Johanna there is a special karaoke section at the extra’s on the DVD! Oh my! I have to get my hands on that one! Ever since Robbies “Angels” in a to drunken state in Malmö I haven’t been performing anymore! *HAHAHA* Maybe it’s time to get back on the horse! ;-)

Also saw Fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend. Interesting movie. Bit of a one sided view maybe, but definitely an interesting one. It sure makes you wonder. It ain’t a particularly funny documentary, but it did make me smile when a gentleman who was comparing his empty, worn out neighborhood somewhere in the USA with a similar neighborhood in Baghdad and stating that Bush knew all about it and didn’t do anything for his neighborhood. Probably highlighting the problems in the USA that are ignored, as fighting a war elsewhere on the planet has priority over your helping your own people. Either way, the man spoke legendary words: “He (Bush, red.) knows all about it!”…”He does??” … “Yes, I send him an email!”.
Good boy! Hope it helps! :-)

Shocked…
September 4th, 2006. Posted 20:15

I was shocked today when I got an SMS very early this morning from Sally. The crocodile hunter had died. I couldn’t believe it. Surfed to nu.nl (a Dutch news website), nothing yet… phef… abc.net.au (an Australian news website)… Headline: Steve Irvine died. Silence. It’s not that I didn’t trust Sally’s SMS, I just didn’t wanne believe it. How could the crocodile hunter be dead?

But he was. Sad, ever so sad. And it’s very weird to think that just 2 months ago we were snorkeling quite close to where he died. Very strange. Especially because that place is such a special memory for me. Strange that something like this could happen in such a wonderful and special place… Sad… so sad…

As I read on one of the Australian websites, he died doing what he loved best. I loved his show. Not always because what he was doing, but mainly because of the great enthusiasm and passion he showed in what he was doing. It’s a great thing to see in people, and he sure showed it around.

What stay are the memories… The funny shows, how he inspired me to catch a goat and all the fun we had in Stockholm making Ozzie Kim talk like the crocodile hunter.

Kangaroo, Crocodile and 7 seconds of fame!
August 10th, 2006. Posted 18:43

The last weekend before going back to Holland Sally and I stayed in a hotel on Manly Beach in Sydney. A lovely location and with the ferry from Manly just a short and nice “ride” to the city centre, ending at Circular Quay, right between the Harbour Bridge and the Opera house. Easy as anything.

On Friday evening we ended up having dinner at a grill restaurant (can’t remember the name… “Something” Grill…) at the waterside with a view on the Harbour Bridge on the left and the Opera house on the right. Lovely spot for a nice dinner. And a nice dinner it was! I finally got to try some Kangaroo and Crocodile! After trying a barramundi in Port Douglas (really, really nice fish!!) those to were left on the list to try and didn’t think I would do so before leaving but when the opportunity came by at the grill restaurant I had to make a stand! Kangaroo and Crocodile it would be! :-)

And I did not get disappointed at all! They were both jammie. The Kangaroo very nice and tender, the croc … well… like a weird tasted chicken… :-) but nice as well! Still enjoying the moment a guy appeared on the terrace we were sitting, with a little flute and started playing a birthday song for the table next to us. We just smiled and thought the guy belonged to the restaurant and was just being funny on request… little did we know! Moments later he appeared at our table playing some annoying song! Leaving us feeling quite uncomfortable, but luckily after he played a bit a waiter came and asked the man to please leave the restaurant terrace…

And little we knew indeed! Because when the guy left and we saw that there were people with camera’s, Sal figured out the guy was from a ABC TV show called “The chaser’s war on everything“, and was just recording a little bit for next weeks show… And yes! We made the show! *LOL* well… made it… click here to see our 7 seconds of fame! (7.9 MB, © ABC TV). And you have to look carefully, because I am hard to spot, but Sal is quite obviously looking away in disgust! ;-)

[Ok, I will help a bit… it’s us between 0:57 and 1:04!]

SeX. MurdEr. MyStery.

If you wanne see a really good and funny movie at the end of this year, you must go see: kiss kiss, bang bang!! I saw it last week at the Stockholm filmfestival, and out of the movies I saw it was definitely the most entertaining! The movie never gets boring and keeps a funny high pace until the end. And it doesn’t just have the obvious humor, the humor is often quite unexpected, and therefore making the movie just really funny. So if you wanne smile, go see this movie, and watch for Elvis in the end! ;-)

If you are curious, you can watch the trailer here!

In a world where laughter was king
October 26th, 2005. Posted 22:57

Inspired by seeing the really funny trailer, I got curious about seeing the movie Comedian with Jerry Seinfeld. It just got out on DVD, but when I just looked it up on the IMDb website, it turns out the actual movie is from 2002… Damn we are slow in this little country…

But besides that, the documentary was quite interesting to watch. Funny at times, but mainly a quite serious look in the stand-up comedy kitchen. They follow Seinfeld when he starts doing a new stand-up act. Doing the same routine for months and months, starting at small comedy places, trying to get it perfect and increasing it minute by minute with new stuff. Amazing process and interesting to watch.

Only where it was fun to watch Seinfeld work on his routine, I got kinda annoyed by the moments where they were following some young arrogant comedian that was trying to get his act together… Damn he was annoying! He might have been funny, but his constant arrogant remarks were just killing. Nevertheless, the movie was interesting and worth seeing.

Unexpectedly OK
October 22nd, 2005. Posted 19:01

Never thought a movie about revenge could be so funny and ok to watch. The movie: Four Brothers. The story is easily summarized by: Bad guys kill mamma, 4 brothers take revenge. And they take revenge with a hard hand. Any discussion is at least made with throwing a couple of punches, draining people in petrol or waving a gun around. Often the violence seems a bit over the top, but that also made it funny in a strange way.

Maybe I enjoyed it so much because I wasn’t expecting anything. I had only seen a short trailer about the movie on TV, but as those flashy trailers can almost make any movie seem fun I wasn’t putting a lot of value to that. So with an open mind, not knowing what to expect, I sat down and as it turned out, enjoyed the movie.

Ok, it might not have been the best movie ever, but it’s definitely funny and entertaining! So yes, worth seeing if you ask me! :-)

Holland Sport: an other look on sport
September 5th, 2005. Posted 22:44

One of my favorite TV shows started a new season today: Holland Sport. Not just you regular TV program about sport, they try to look at sport from different sides as well. Like with a professional cyclist who was a guest today. He (Jans Koerts) broke about 8 or 9 bones in his body while crashing in a fast (75, 80km/h) decent in some cycling race in Portugal. And just that description was probably how it was broadcasted in the news just after it happened 2 months ago. But now we get the amazing details about the event! Apparently he was cut of in a corner by one of the following cars, had to take the outside of a turn, lost control and went straight at an old Portuguese lady who was watching the race… he avoided the lady, but that caused him to run straight into the wall of her house… It was a natural reaction to try and avoid the lady, but what if… what if he would have just crashed into her… he would probably not have broken a bone, or at least not close to 10… and still be a professional cyclist today. But with that speed, combined with her age, she would have probably not been able to tell the story after such a crash. Fascinating that such split seconds decisions can have such a big impact on things…

But more fascination in the show! The world long jump champion was there as well and together with him they “replayed” his personal best jump of 8.60… That distance… more then 8 and a half meter… weird to actually stop for a moment and look and understand how far that distance actually is… amazing… Already looking forward to more fascinating stories on next weeks show! :-)

The So-So Four
July 30th, 2005. Posted 10:58

Fantastic Four the movie. The obvious comment: definitely not a fantastic movie. Entertainment? Oh yes, for sure, but that’s about it I would say. Didn’t really knew what to expect when I went into the cinema yesterday, but I wasn’t disappointed when I got out, so that seems to be good. To sum it up: Story wasn’t real spectacular, characters were quite good, plenty of moments to make you smile but an ending that was rather disappointing…

Remembering the Marvel comics from when I was a kid, Dr. Doom used to kick ass! Big time! But now the whole thing was round up in a matter of minutes… I guess he needs to get his revenge in the sequel… So don’t go running to the cinema’s to see this one, but I guess it will make an ok movie to watch on a rainy day at home…

Drama that slaps you in the face
April 1st, 2005. Posted 20:50

I watched American History X last night. Drama. Drama that slaps you in the face. A truly great movie with a briljant Edward Norton. Very strong stuff. Scary even every now and then. Scary because it makes you think. And realize that things like that must happen somewhere every day. My favorite line from the movie: “Has anything you’ve done made your life better?”
Yes, think about that for a second! :-) If you haven’t seen it yet, you should definitely go rent it!

A true movie classic!
January 10th, 2005. Posted 00:14

A true movie classic! Hadn’t seen it in ages. Actually think I have only seen it once or twice many years ago. It actually was one of the first scary movies I have seen as a kid. Which movie? Aliens.
I have seen the latest one, Alien VS Predator or AVP, in November last year and that made me think of the movies again. I always liked Aliens (the second Alien movie) the best, so when I could borrow it from my brother last week I got excited to watch it. Yesterday I did and it was great fun to see it again! Because even though I hadn’t seen it in a while, I still remembered quite a bit. The marines. Vasquez, Apone, Hicks, Hudson, Bishop… The plane, the car, the girl, the aliens, the welding of the doors and maybe the best of all: the motion sensor! The tension caused by it is just brilliant! With Hudson crying out over the beeping motion sensor: “6 meters… 5 meters… they’re inside the room!” Brilliant stuff! :-) It was very cool seeing it again so bring on the next “classic”!
