Using the “new” laptop
January 12th, 2006. Posted 20:34

March 9th, 2005. The new laptop arrived.
January 12th, 2006. I have started to use it. :-)

No, it has not just been laying around all that time. My mamma has been using it. Mainly to play her favourite card games. When I got the new laptop, I had just gotten my old Dell laptop working again and couldn’t be bothered at that time to transfer everything to the new laptop and set-up everything as it was on the Dell. So until I was ready to transfer my stuff, my mamma would use the new laptop to play her card games on and occasionally use MSN, email and internet.

Only when time went by, there never was a real reason for me to switch back to the new laptop, other then the fact it is much nicer then my old Dell. So my mamma kept using the new fancy laptop while I was still using the old one. At one point in time I got close to reclaiming the “new” laptop. I transferred the card games to the old Dell and … damn! That didn’t work… Ever since I had the Dell computer, the screen resolution had not been the best. It was totally fine to work with but with some applications you could notice. Indeed, with the fine application of the card game you could notice it badly! I actually tried to play a couple of games but was quite quickly developing a serious headache… That was not going to work…

Even when in October from last year the Dell laptop screen broke, the time to reclaim the “new” laptop had not arrived. I was able to borrow an old big monitor from my brother, hook it up to the laptop and work with that as a screen. Not a lovely solution, but it worked! :-)

But now there is simply no turning back. Leaving for Barcelona it would be nice to bring the laptop. And as I simply can’t drag along the huge monitor. So today I moved my stuff to the “new” laptop. Actually turned out to be far less work then I expected… So all is up and running again and this is the first post on the blog from the new laptop. And I am already loving it! And the Sony wide screen already proves briljant for watching DVDs as well!! :-)

Problemen kvarstår
September 4th, 2005. Posted 09:21

There seem to be some minor issues with the limecrush website at the moment… Nothing major, all minor, but it could mean this not showing up every now and then… But not to worry, we have our people working on it 24/7! :-)

The official announcement was as follows, in Swedish, but as the limecrush fanbase ain’t that big, I won’t spend two hours to translate:

The WordPress update
June 7th, 2005. Posted 23:02

As you can see, the limecrush blog doesn’t look like it should at the moment… Peter has updated the WordPress software to the new version 1.5.1.2 tonight and that went very smoothly (big thank you Peter!!), but that’s about the only thing that went smoothly… to get the limecrush to appear as I wanted to, I went quite wild in hacking into the old version (1.2) of the WordPress software. All great fun at the time and not a problem at all, until the upgrade… I already spend almost 2 hours trying to get the blog to look & feel back to how it was… and I am not even close yet… But I am to tired to continue now, so the blog will appear with somewhat limited functionality for now. Hopefully I will get everything back to work as it should tomorrow! :-)

Update (June 12, 2005):
Well, still not completely done yet… it was way more work then I expected… plus with the relatively nice weather the last days I didn’t spend that much time indoors to work on it… but it’s getting pretty alright again now! :-)

Eye for detail
March 3rd, 2005. Posted 21:21

The Shell internet connection doesn’t allow people to listen to webradio. A pity. All local stations are therefore blocked. So alternatives are required. People bring in MP3 players or listen to CD’s. Options, but I prefer the radio. So today I remembered my Swedish favorite! Bandit Rock 106-3. What kind of music they play can’t be a surprise, as it’s all in the name. And, as I rightly expected, they are not blocked by the Shell internet connection! :-)
Funny detail when I surfed to the Bandit website, they use a custom cursor for the links on their website. Tonight when I opened the website in my preferred browser Firefox, it turned out the custom cursor doesn’t work in Firefox (only in Internet Explorer 6+)… Little disappointment, which only grew bigger when it became clear the whole online radio thing doesn’t work in Firefox… but anyway, that’s besides the point. The point that I liked their eye for detail!

So for you out there who don’t like using Internet Explorer either, but are curious, this is the cursor they use and where you can listen to their music:

We love you Russia! We do!
February 23rd, 2005. Posted 19:43

We love you Russia! We do! Ooooooooohhh, Russia we love you! :-)
Yes, I have to pay deep respect to the people that saved my day! On Monday my laptop crashed again. Big time this time. It would hang on start-up with a funky sound from the harddisk every time. Last time the workaround was to just reinstall Windows on top of everything, this time even that failed… After about 40 failed reboot I was getting quite desperate and sad… yes, I was so stupid to believe that the computer after the last crash would keep working, and didn’t make any back-up of the data on my computer… Argggg… stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!! But as I couldn’t turn back time, I could only except my stupidity and move on. But well, that wasn’t easy as the computer didn’t wanne turn on anymore…. But!!! Praise the lord there is a but! :-) For no reason and totally unexpected reboot number 41 all of a sudden worked!!!! WHEEEHOOO!!!!! That was a very happy moment! Now the plan was simple: BURN, BURN, BURN!!!! Only I hadn’t installed the burn software on my laptop yet after the first crash… Oops…. Little problem… Luckily I have the original CD with the burning software! Installation went quickly, but then the installation program required a reboot to finalize the installation…. mmmmm…. that didn’t feel like a good plan… the 40 failed reboots in the last 15 minutes were still very fresh in my memory and not giving me much of a comfortable feeling to reboot again. No option. But what now… Other burning software! I remembered Nero. The plan was now to download a Nero trial version and pray it wouldn’t require a reboot after installation. Downloading… 30MB file… 35 minutes left… 34 minutes left… pffff… I was already getting impatient… Then a glorious moment: I remembered the old version of Nero I put on my machine just before the last Windows installation! Maybe that would work! It did… but as it was an old trail version, it wouldn’t work with a official registration key… mmmmm… that could be fixed. That’s where are Russian friends come into the picture. Yes, a quick search and about 62 popup porn windows later the Nero registration key was there! Would it work?!? IT DOES!!!! Yes, I know these Russian hackers are maybe a bit naughty by supplying a very wide range of registration keys for any program can think off, but damn I couldn’t care less at that moment! These people were true hero’s!!! They saved my day! :-)
After entering the registration key everything went according the simple plan: burn, burn, burn. Now, 18 full CD’s and a very long Monday and Tuesday night later I am ready for a total cleanup. As I have no clue if this will actually be successful, it could be that the activity on the limecrush blog will be quite slow the coming days… But stay tuned! I might be back before you know it! Although I might have used up all my luck on the 41st reboot! ;-)

Update (February 24, 2005):
Hello again! Luck was definitely on my side. Formatted the machine, spend yesterday evening as well as this evening reinstalling some of the software and it’s looking good again! But as I have a constant fear in my head now that it could crash every moment, I will have to get a new laptop soon! Although knowing myself longer then today, it could well be that if it keeps working for one week running and I forget all about it again! *hahaha* even the weekly backup plan I was convinced I had to have two days ago, is already interpreted quite flexible… Will I ever learn? ;-)

First category shuffle
February 20th, 2005. Posted 12:01

There was no escaping possible. Just a matter of time before it would happen, and it will most like happen again in the future: “The category shuffle”. Already had the idea to add good restaurants to the blog, but didn’t go to one until yesterday! So when I wrote about last nights spare-ribs this morning, it was also time to re-shuffle the categories. Now the recipes and restaurants belong to the new “food & drink” category. Not much about “drink” there yet, but not to worry, I am thinking about adding a list of nice wines that I will come across. Whenever I have to pick out a bottle of wine, I can never remember the good ones I had in the past… Now I can make the blog help me remember! :-)

Hello blog, I am back! :-)
February 11th, 2005. Posted 23:02

Whoopiedoo! It’s alive! I got it to work again! Last monday, at 0630 in the morning, my laptop crashed… Or crashed… it just didn’t wanne start anymore. Quite annoying at that time, as I was getting ready to go to my first workday and had to look up the address where I needed to go. I could remember it a bit, so I managed to get there in the end, but it still was rather frustrating my computer broke down, as it’s the only one I got. Frustration was also the key word when trying to fix it. But that’s partly because of my lack of patience with my computer. Why doesn’t it just work?! So I wasn’t able to fix it and put it away for the rest of the week. It wasn’t worth it to get frustrated over it every night trying to fix something that didn’t wanne be fixed. Finally I was able to re-install windows. 2 times, as I forgot to install the network options the first time, and those turned out to be quite essential… But well, after the second time it worked! *hahaha* it’s was also the only thing that worked, but a childs hand is easily filled! And after some installing I am able to write on the blog again! :-) It’s maybe a bit weird, but I actually missed it. Guess because the last weeks I really got into writing on it. But now I can write down my thoughts again! ;-)

Extreme makeover
January 4th, 2005. Posted 00:03

No, not talking about the horrifying TV-show, just this simple blog. Yes, already after 3 months it was about time for one… badly I must say. Initially I was just lazy and only changed the stylesheets that came with the default WordPress installation, but now I went a bit more wild, and changed a whole lot more. Under little pressure of Peter I must add, showing me a couple of nice examples of how a real blog should look and feel! And silently saying mine was far from it! :-) Well, I went to work, and see here the initial result! It could be that functionality is a bit shaky here and there, but that’s because I am not totally done yet… It should get more steady in coming days/weeks! :-)

For those people who preferred the green look and feel, you can get nostalgic by clicking here.

And of course, feel free to share your thoughts on the new look and feel! All comments will be considered, so no need to be gentle! :-)

Update (June 8, 2005):
Removed nostalgic link… Nobody will miss it and it’s just to much hassle to get it to work with the new WordPress version.

Happy new year sweet people!

May the new year bring lot’s of love, happiness and joy!

Big smile to you! :-)

Ps. The reason I haven’t written much lately is not that I have a writers block. Been working on the new “look and feel”! Take a sneak peek!

Update (January 31, 2005):
Removed sneak peek link… There is nothing to peek at anymore! ;-)

No milk today…
November 29th, 2004. Posted 23:47

Well, the pressure was on and today should have been the day for my first real message in this blog… I had to step up to the challenge and write something to fill up this big empty page. I failed… miserably I must add! Well this is something, but not at all what I had in mind. Although this doesn’t have to be a bad sign. As now the only way is up!! :-) There are many great stories in my head and it’s just a matter of time before they start popping up! I had some things to do today, none big, all rather small and meaningless, but couldn’t set myself to it for some reason… probably the same reason I haven’t been writing that great brilliant opening story for the blog I was dreaming about. So tomorrow will be the day! I usually deliver my best work under pressure… mmmm… maybe I shouldn’t have shared that, as now the bar will be raised for me again. We will see!
